Anti-Bullying in Sport

The Irish Bowls Federation is supporting the Anti-Bullying in sport message and we would encourage all clubs to consider making their members aware of this message.   Bullying behaviour is currently defined as “repeated use of power, by one or more persons, intentionally to harm, hurt or adversely affect the rights or needs of another or others”. (NI Anti-Bullying Forum). It can take many forms, but the 3 main types are: Physical, Verbal, & Emotional and it should be remembered that bullying can occur through Social Media as well as in person.

More information can be obtained from the website www.endbullying.org.uk and clubs can register here to support the campaign locally.  Anti-Bullying week runs this year from 16th – 22nd November.  More resources are available from the Child Protection in Sport Unit and guidance and exercises for sports leaders can be accessed at
